ADHD OASIS Meetup: Running the ADHD Marathon | Burning Out from Not Slowing Down

December 21, 2023 12:00 pm PDT

About This Event

Join us on Thursday, December 21st for New Tech’s FREE ADHD OASIS Virtual Community Meetup
on Running the ADHD Marathon | Burning Out from Not Slowing Down

Overexertion, taking on too much, over-scheduling to the point having too much to do and no time to do it will eventually cause life to come to a screeching halt. When you are burning the candle from both ends you are bound to burnout. Burnout is that extreme fatigue that happens when you dont take time to rest and it is much more prevalent among those with ADHD. In this meetup we will discuss strategies to prevent burnout..

The virtual Meetup is free, but you’ll still need to register for the virtual Meetups each month to join us so do it now before the procrastination squirrel pops up.

Discover how to decrease your neurodiverse challenges while building relationships with fellow ADHDers and neurodiverse peers who are on similar journeys.

You can attend these virtual Meetups on the third Thursday of every month.

Instead of being lonely in your experience, come laugh, learn, and connect with your community.

During the Meetups, we share personal and professional struggles as well as systems and strategies to overcome your executive functioning and working memory challenges like anxiety, overwhelm, miscommunication, interrupting, inattentiveness, stress, distractibility, procrastination, paperwork fails, imposter syndrome, having to mask your neurodivergence at work, and weak organization skills. Welcome!

One in five adults is neurodiverse and one in twenty have ADHD. In the tech industry, these numbers are even higher.

Unfortunately, most business cultures are not very neurodiverse-friendly because neurotypical folks have not been educated on what it’s like to live with our faster-than-normal brains, rejection-sensitive dysphoria, low executive function, low working memory, low dopamine, and low serotonin.

In these virtual Meetups we explore how you can better explain neurodiversity to your loved ones and coworkers to bridge this education gap. The better you are at sharing what it’s like from your brain’s perspective, the less time you’ll spend being frustrated, disappointed, and defensive at work and home.

Maybe you’re undiagnosed but experience ADHD symptoms. While there is no replacement for a professional diagnosis from a licensed expert, if any of this feels familiar, you can take this test to assess whether you might have ADHD.

December 21st Hot Topic — Preventing Burnout

Attendee Requirements

  • Have a belief or diagnosis that you have ADD / ADHD
  • Work, or currently be looking for work, in the technology industry

Our monthly virtual meetups are designed to foster collaboration and support within our ADHD tech community. Anyone working in tech who is seeking ADHD support is invited to join us.

To ensure a focused environment, we kindly ask ADHD coaches not to join these events. ADHD Oasis meetups are not a place to coach group members or to actively seek clients. Thank you for your understanding.

The Why

Join us because it sucks to not have ADHD friends who get you.

When you hear other people’s struggles and ways of managing their ADHD you realize that you’re not alone. And you’ll learn better ways to manage your ADD/ADHD brain. Bonus – we’re fun!

Laughing about cosplaying that you’re a neurotypical professional at work (masking), feeling like an idiot 10-year-old while being an amazing intelligent adult at the same time (imposter syndrome), and feeling misunderstood and mentally exhausted (low executive function) beats the hell out of feeling anxious and depressed about it.

The Benefits

Hear stories reminding you that you’re not alone feeling like a dolphin swimming with sharks each day
Make new friends with fellow ADHDers
Share your ADD / ADHD struggles and wins with others who live it and ‘get it’
Learn new skills to lower your stress and anxiety
Create new systems and routines to overcome your neurodivergent struggles
Discover how to optimize your neurodivergent strengths

The Agenda
You are welcome to show up late or leave early to suit your schedule. We understand that this is a workday event and unexpected priorities arise. We’re neurodiverse and understand these realities. 🙂
12:00pm – Welcome!
12:05pm – Community discussion of today’s main neurodiverse topic
12:20pm – Breakout into small groups to discuss the topic further and meet some new friends
12:45pm – Return to the main Zoom room to share stories and learnings from your breakout group experience
1:00pm – Closing and farewell until the Meetup next month
The Vibe

A supportive community of neurodiverse folks who see, understand, and support the ups and downs of your neurodiverse journey. You’ll laugh, smile, and exhale the stresses around living in a neurotypically-designed world and workplaces. Come share what you’re up to, be curious and helpful to others, and make some new friends in the tech community!

The Experience

Receive community support and professional coaching as you talk safely with fellow ADHDers and neurodiverse peers about your challenges and solutions around neurodiverse living & working as a professional. Get love, understanding, tools for support, and meet new friends in a fun and safe space. We have fun too. 🙂

The Price

ADHD Oasis virtual meetups are free of charge through the winter though you must register to attend.

ADHD Symptom Spotlight: Burnout

All About ADHD Burnout

What Group Coaching and Community Has Been Like for Some Members:

“I learned more from today‘s conversation about ADHD and its effect on executive function, as well as tips/tools that might help improve certain functions/behaviors in the workplace than I have with several hours of direct counseling. The New Tech ADHD OASIS meetup was extremely inspiring and I have a lot of homework to do based on what I heard today.”

“Coaching with Brett Greene has been an important part of my journey towards accepting and managing my ADHD diagnosis. Being a part of a group of other professionals who are also affected by ADHD has been not only cathartic but has also made me more comfortable with sharing my diagnosis and my experiences with others. Brett has done a wonderful job of managing the group, striking the right balance between providing structure and topics to the coaching sessions, while allowing the group to share their experiences and strategies and ultimately dictate the flow of the sessions.”

“Coaching with Brett Greene has been eye-opening and invaluable. It has helped me to think about my neurodiversity as an asset rather than a weakness. I’ve enjoyed being in a group of other professionals with ADHD to learn from other people’s experiences. In our sessions I’ve gotten help for everything from planning to public speaking and career direction. I’ve also developed healthy new daily habits, such as leaving my phone in another room while working for at least a couple hours every day. I always have positive warm feelings following our sessions. Our coaching conversations consistently end with a sense of energy and optimism that’s missing during my day-to-day work week. It’s been incredible to go over career planning, Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, ADHD, leadership development, relationship building, and public speaking in ways that connect all of these dots together. I’ve never come close to doing anything this personally and professionally powerful before.

“I didn’t find out that I had ADHD until I was 51. Getting that diagnosis put a lot of things in perspective for me as someone who has been starting SAAS companies for 20 years. There’s a reason why I’m attracted to entrepreneurship. First, it taps into a lot of the things I’m good at around problem solving and getting a healthy dose of new challenges. Second, I probably wasn’t a terrific employee. My undiagnosed ADHD made it hard for me to be good at taking on complex projects, staying organized, and meeting deadlines. Unfortunately, working for myself didn’t make me good at that stuff, it just meant that I couldn’t get fired. Brett has really helped me to level up as an entrepreneur. Together, we’ve been ramping up my executive function skills so that I can delegate better, get big projects done more efficiently, and spend more time leveraging my ADHD superpowers. I’m having more fun than I’ve ever had and becoming the entrepreneur I’ve always wanted to be.”
