Are you sick of unexpected password rotations throwing a wrench in your backlog? We sure were, but because we use a large fleet of pgBouncers (no atomic changes) and were looking to migrate to AWS Aurora (no access to pg_shadow), the solution wasn’t obvious. This talk is the story of how we managed to overcome the consequences of our life choices and build a solution. As an end state, we now have continually rotating credentials, no passwords to leak, and the ability to use pgBouncer against any Postgres server, Aurora or otherwise.

Pizza is provided, and we also have a user group lending library of books & papers related to PostgreSQL and Databases.

NEW LOCATION: same place as the summer BBQ – the Fred Hutch Steam Plant building. (Entrance on Eastlake Ave)

Ben Chobot has been guarding data against entropy for over two decades, and has worked at over a dozen startups and large organizations. He has had stints as a terrible front-end developer, a mediocre back-end developer, and a fairly reasonable systems admin of various specialties. He has spent the last 13 years as a DBA team lead in ed tech, helping tens of millions of teachers and students daily. When he’s not coming up with proactive plans against his own pessimistic predictions, he spends his time seeking out wonder and happiness in the world.
