What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned since you first presented at NTNW?
Focus on doing less, better. We were able to identify our bright spots and put our resources into nurturing them.
Did the pandemic cause your company to change/pivot your business model or strategy?
No. We capitalized on the nature of our small team to pick up the slack where larger organizations were slower to get moving in the “new normal.”
What is the most innovative way your tech solves the problems of your customers?
Science is exhausting to understand and we try to make it approachable, engaging, and meaningful. We combine science, art, and technology to introduce people to some of the latest salmon research and the reasons to invest in saving them. A few examples: our Survive the Sound program now involves more than 20,000 people annually in a game-ified virtual race using data collected from real steelhead populations; and our new Salish Sea Marine Survival Project research findings are summarized using Esri StoryMaps to give people an accessible, multimedia tour of a five-year, $40 million, international research effort.
What is something interesting and unexpected that people would be surprised to learn about your company?
As part of our work, we grow fish to prevent salmon and steelhead populations from slipping into extinction. Watch them live here!
